Legion V3 Update – Intel 9th Gen & NVIDIA RTX
Legion is one of our premium mobility offerings which is designed as a desktop replacement. This is based on Clevo P775TM1-G Barebone Series.
V3 Refresh is now available with support for Intel 9th Gen CPUs & NVIDIA 20 Series RTX GPUs.
Detailed Specs –
This barebone provides option to plug in both Intel 8th & 9th Gen Desktop CPUs. Desktop CPU on a mobility chassis is one of our main market differentiators. Not only it provides uncompromised performance, but also the flexibility of drop in upgrades as long as the CPU Socket Compatibility & BIOS Updates are available. Plus, Plug & Play support brings down the service cost on long run without any specific OEM lock down.
Majority of mobility solutions available in Indian Market are based out on Intel’s Mobility CPU Lineup which are soldered to board and have low TDPs to support slim form factor thus lowering base clocks.
As an example , i9-8950HK is one of the top end offering in mobility line-up in BGA. Inline benchmark compares this to i9-9900K –
We are looking at around 28% better multi-threaded performance compared to mobility counter part. However , this is not an apple to apple comparison as , its 6 Cores (12 Threads) vs. 8 Cores (16 Threads). Though , the option of having this kind of performance on a mobility form factor is what makes this exciting.
Inline 9th Gen CPUs are now available in Legion –
Legion now supports NVIDIA RTX 2080 8GB & 2070 8GB Notebook Variants
Now there is a bit of confusion on NVIDIA’s Mobility SKU which we generally get asked during Technical Consultation. To shed some light, NVIDIA usually launches two variants of same line up as Max-Q & Non Max-Q (Notebook)
Max-Q design is the power saving variant with reduced clock speeds and power consumption. Non Max-Q (Notebook) is based on the Desktop SKU but with reduced core speeds. Memory is similar clocked and sized.
We use Non Max-Q (Notebook) Variants which perform close to their Desktop Counter Parts. GPUs are in MXM Form Factor, hence providing plug & play support along with future upgrade prospects (*depends on design of next Generation) & also lower service costs compared to BGA Platforms.
Notebook Check published a detailed Tech Spec & Benchmark for both Notebook & Max-Q Variants of RTX Lineup. Feel free to refer the inline links for details on same along with performance difference –
For best possible performance , we always recommend to opt for Notebook (Non Max-Q) Variants.
